‘I Can’t Retire’: Sylvester Stallone Reveals Why He Must Keep Working

Sylvester Stallone is putting his retirement plans on hold as he prepares to foot the bill for his daughter Sophia Stallone’s upcoming wedding.

The 80-year-old Rocky star made the revelation during an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on October 13, admitting that his daughter’s nuptials have given him another reason to remain in the workforce.

“Oh, man, it’s almost embarrassing to say — but I can’t retire. I can’t retire,” Stallone said. “I’m serious.”

Sophia, 30, announced her engagement to boyfriend Michael Sheehan in late August. She shared a series of photographs on Instagram capturing the couple’s intimate proposal, accompanied by the caption, “Forever with my best friend ♾️”

During his television appearance, Stallone spoke warmly about his future son-in-law, describing Sheehan as a “great guy.” The actor also revealed that Sheehan had asked for his blessing before proposing to Sophia, a gesture that left a positive impression on him.

“He actually asked for her hand,” the action star said, adding that he was struck by Sheehan’s confidence ahead of the proposal.

“I went, ‘Wow, good luck, pal.’ But my wife [Jennifer Flavin] had to be there to be referee,” Stallone said.

Stallone and Flavin share three daughters: Sophia, Sistine, 28, and Scarlet, 24. The actor also has two sons from his first marriage to Sasha Czack.

The close relationship between Stallone and Sophia has previously been discussed by Flavin. In a 2012 interview with Paris Match, she said Sophia most closely resembles her father in personality and mannerisms among their three daughters.

“They have a very special bond. They think alike and even have the same gestures,” Flavin said. “Sophia is the love of his life.”

With Sophia preparing to marry Sheehan, Stallone’s latest comments offer a glimpse into the family milestone that has him reconsidering his plans to step away from work.
